Boys and Girls Active!

During March KSSP delivered two Active events, designed to introduce young people to a new activity and aimed at those young people who are disengaged from sports and physical activity, have low attendance or lack confidence. The aim was to tackle inequalities in activity and help young people find a fun, new activity and help them on their own personal physical activity and sporting journey!

A Boys Active event was held first, which consisted of boxing, fitness and wellbeing stations consisting of pad work, fitness circuits and a focus on mental health and wellbeing. This was delivered by Head Coach Kieran Flanagan and his staff from KFCoaching, over 30 young people took part worked hard on the day, developing new skills and pushing themselves to achieve their own personal best!

A Girls Active event was then held a week later, a Rave n Fit event which combined aerobics and dance to a background of dance and rave music whilst utilising glow sticks and glow lights!

The event was lead by Miss Nicholson from Kirkby High School who put the girls through their paces in a neon workout! Over 40 girls took part and combined having fun with an intense aerobic workout!

The events were designed to help empower and improve young people’s relationship with physical activity in a non-competitive and safe environment. All participants were signposted to relevant clubs and sessions to continue the activities and Merseyside Sport attended both events to survey pupil voice and gain valuable insight into the barriers and challenges that young people face in their relationship with physical activity, and the solutions to help get them more active!
