Sue Smith Encouraging Youngsters to Lead the Way in School Sport

England International Sue Smith has been impressed by Kirkby Sports College commitment to encouraging pupils to take up leadership and volunteering roles to help shape the future of school sport.

Her comments came as she presented Chelsea Arrowsmith from Kirkby Sports College with a certificate which recognise and acknowledge the level of volunteering that she has undertaken.

Sue  who has made 96 appearances for her country has been hearing how Kirkby Sports College are using these roles to help pupils develop their confidence, teamwork, problem solving and communication skills through sport and encouraging them to apply what they learned to benefit others.

“As part of my role as an Ambassador for the Youth Sport Trust I get to go on school visits to see the amazing work being done.  I am often just as impressed by the hard work and dedication of pupils helping to set up and lead sessions as I am by the sporting skills and ability I see.” said Sue.

My competitive career has only been possible because of all the volunteers and officials who have given their time to the sport – from local club and recreational level, right up to international level.  I would not have got to where I am today if there weren’t people wanting to fill these crucial roles.”
